Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Walk Las Vegas

Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 2008

Yesterday I had a Blast.  I walked the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure here in Las Vegas May 3rd.  It was at the Fremont Street Experience and I was a Blast.  Since I have been walking for some time,  I wanted to walk the 5k (3.4 miles).  I was able to finish at 1hr and 15 minutes. It was a wonderful to see so many people that were at the event.  I met a couple of survivors of the even and also people who were walking for the memory of a mother, daughter or sister. They had all kinds of pamplets and information on prevention and how to get a breast exam.  After the walk, they had treats from various participating companies.  I was able to grab a couple of fruits, yougurts, ice cream and drink samples.  It was just enough food for everyone. Overall it was just $25.00 to sign up.  I was able to get my t-shirt and number tag for the event.  Everything was very organized and started right on time.  The affairs ended around 10:00 a.m. or so.  It was just nice to help in a cause that effects so many people.   What came to my surprise was how many women who were survivors that were so young (around 30 or so) This is a deadly disease and it is very serious.  It is very important to know that prevention is the key when it comes to Breast cancer. For more information about participation in your area, go to www.komen.org/ for more information.

We are all in this together.

April showers brings spring flowers

It has been a while since I have written on my post.  There have been many things that I have been looking into in regards to writing and starting something new.  I have thought that I would take my blogging a little further by starting to work on build a niche sites commonly known as (BANS).  On April 1st, eBay started their own affiliate and stopped using commission junction. I just signed up this week and will be trying to create some income.  My goal is to create 30-40 by the end of the year (as I work a full time job).  My goal is to try to make at least $1000.00 a month by the end of the year.  I hope I will be able to do this as it will be a new beginning for me and will give me more confidence using the Internet. Also many other things have happened to my that are positive.

I have bought a treadmill and it works great! I have not looked at how much weight that I have lost but I have seen a significant difference in my posture and my clothes.  I still walk at work but not as often as it is getting hotter and in the summer months it will be unbearable to even move from your car to your house (in July usually gets around 110 degrees in the desert!) I also about a new laptop.  I will be able to work faster and quicker on my goal making my websites.  I also did some spring cleaning.  I took my terribly crowded walk in closet and made it into a library.  I got sick of all the clutter since we moved in July and just needed to take all of my husband’s  books.  I was very blessed to find bookshelves at Big-lots for $17.00 per shelf at the time ( bought 5).  I was so proud of myself that I had to take a pic of the closet when it was completed.

There have been other things mentally that I have been facing.  Don’t know why but talking to my mother seems that every 10 years (as I am in my 30’s now) that seems that I am at the point now to make a job change. When I say job change, I don’t mean really occupation, but that of independence and entrepreneurialship.  I believe my life is changing were I am ready to start figuring out how to make some extra money on the side an eventually work for myself.  My blog is going to still talk about my life and work but it will also incorporate a way that if others are also in the same position (whether it is working on the Internet or their dream job) will also be encouraged. I hope that I will have the ability to take my blog to encourage others to follow their dream.  Whether it is to make extra money to go to school to paying some extra bills. Just to do what you love to do….and get paid something for it.  Paid doesn’t just mean money, but knowing that you are spending time, even if it is for one hour a day, doing someting you love.  Then once you look back months and months later, you could say that you did something that made you happy.  This is what I am going to try to accomplish.

I know that it seems that I am rambling, but I hope and pray that I will be able to accomplish my goals this year (doing pretty well with my weight loss) and just take my life to the next level.

I hope that I will be able to encourage others to find their life’s passion.

Women’s Day out 2008!

What a spectacular event. A chance for the girls to go out on their own and have fun.  Now some of you just can’t be by yourselves and need to bring the kids along, but that is ok because sometimes you just have to.  Just to let you know this even is free. Yes, my favorite type of event. As you can see it was a blast! The Thunder From Down Under was there. They mesmerized us as they move their hips and showed their muscles. They teased us with a little taste of what they do in their real show. ( was kinda clean but one of the hunks got carried away pulling down his pants. I think he forgot there where mothers with children in the audience. That was kinda different but isn’t that Las Vegas?). I got plenty of freebies and pictures. Party Gals gave a wonderful mystery gift for the first 500 women in line to the event. It was a wonderful assortment of a citrus burst body wash and body scrub (I have used it twice already and it smells wonderful!)From signed calendars from The Thunder From Down Under, to free drinks (smoothies and cocktails), I had a great time. I got there around 7:30 a.m. Now I thought I would be the first one there. There were 5 women in front of me.  The first lady in line was there at 7:00 a.m.!  Now I would say most of us that are early birds will get there to make sure that we get that free gift. The event starts at 10:00a.m. and goes on to 4:00 p.m. As you can see, everyone who wanted a piece of the fun lined up for the free event. I got a make over (didn’t like it too much. Thought they where using light colors on my face but you can’t complain when it is free.)Got a nice quick picture of Sebastian Roche “Jerry Jacks” from ABC Daytime’s General Hospital. Goodness was that line long! I got a pic of Jack from 100.5. Jack F.M  and Mix 94.1 were just two of the presenters of this wonderful event. Many other booths were also there that also gave away free gifts and raffles during the even.  What I like about them is that you can sign up for their gifts and they will either call you name during the even or call you by phone to let you know you won so you won’t have to stay for the whole time. This was held at the South Point Events Center and what a great time it was. It is held twice a year. Usually in the beginning of February and towards the end of July. I was able to see a few friends and made some new ones. Like to shout out to everyone who came and sorry for the ones who missed out. Make sure that you look for this even around July.  I know I will be there.  This was my third time being here and it gets better every year. I can’t wait to see what free goodies they will be giving away next time. I know that it will be bigger and better than ever. I believe they will have another event like this this summer. Make sure to look at the event calendar at the South Point around July. Hope to see you there next time!

What is the best way to get away? Women’s day out!

This is the third year that I will be going to the exciting event here in my local town called the “Las Vegas Women’s fair. It is hosted by a local radio station 100.5 JackFM and it is fabulous. It is going to take place February 2nd at the South Point Hotel and Casino. There are all kinds of booths and freebies to get. Another thing that makes it up my alley is that it is FREE TO THE PUBLIC! What a wonderful time. The best thing about it (I am such an early bird) is that the first 500 women get to receive a treat from a local organization worth over $30.00! They had all kinds of treats in the past. I got a couple of bottles of free lotion to a $25.00 gift certificate from Albertsons.

They have all kinds of booths selling jewelry, clothes, classes, fitness, travel, and other products. Another favorite is that they will have a couple of soap opera stars and also a local group that is popular with the ladies call the Australia’s Thunder Down Under. Doesn’t float my boat but they are exciting to watch.

If you are local in Las Vegas or will be taking a trip there during on that weekend, take a chance leave the kids and to go to this exciting event. It takes place from 10 a.m to 4:00 p.m. Hope to see you there!

Stop the dis-purse-ment of bag-teria

Once a month I receive a local magazine publication that features local advertisements and other articles about Las Vegas. I usually put these publications in the trash but for some reason yesterday, I decided to take a break and breeze through the magazine. While passing time, there was an article that caught my eye and I wanted to share it because I made me realize that there are somethings that go unnoticed everyday.

I know of an old wives tale that putting your purse on the floor was a sign of bad luck and now I know that it is not just a saying, but is pretty much a true fact. As all caring mothers, we make it a priority to keep my home and my work area clean since there are so many people that are sick during this time of year. But I never thought in a million years that the one thing that I take with me everyday can be the very thing that could be carrying germs everywhere and could make me  and others sick where ever I go.

Did you know that your hand bag can be a carrier of all kinds of germs? It is not the contents that are in your bag that is a concern (depending on what you are carrying) but what is growing on the outside. This is also for any type of hand bag that you carry, whether it be a backpack, brief case or even a lunch box. The outside of the “bag” can be a place for germ growth and germ transfer. These germs can come from anywhere you place your bag; from pacing it on the floor of your favorite restaurant to the public bathroom counter while washing your hands.

There was a microbiologist on Good Morning America by the name of Chuck Gurba from the University of Arizona a couple of years ago that did a study and tested women’s purses and had this to say about them; “We found fecal bacteria you normally find on the floor of restroom,” he said. “We found bacteria that can cause skin infections on the bottom of purses….” . He found that the bottom of women’s purses had tens of thousands of all kinds of bacteria and and viruses. Some examples he found in his experiment showed that e.coli, staphylococcus aureus, salmonella, and even hepatitis were just a few forms of germs that purses can carry. Now that is just disgusting. This caused me to think of all the places that I place my purse. It makes me a bit sick to my stomach just thinking about it. What you don’t know can make you sick or even kill you. I know that I am guilty of putting my purse down at my feet at a restaurant and at the same time will go home and place it on my kitchen counter.

Now the question:What is the way protect yourself? You want to make sure that if you have a leather or vinyl purse is to disinfect it regularly with wipes or even spray. If you have a cloth purse, have it dry cleaned or even if you got a cheap one purchase a new one. (Hey, that is a wonderful excuse to go shop for another purse :) But seriously, when you go to a restaurant, place it in your lap or on the chair that you are sitting on. Make sure at home to place it in a high place for example like at the top of  your closet.
